Do you find cinematography interesting? Is film your love and passion or maybe you just like to watch a good classic on Netflix? Either way you must recognise the famous Prague Cinema Diva, which is internationally known for its movie marathons. During the first edition, held in 1977, thousands of people roamed the streets of Prague just to spend the night watching some of the first silent movies accompanied by live music. Black and white films were not only presented on huge professional screens, yet also on walls of famous buildings and for example on the Charles Bridge. Everybody was so spellbound by this event that the administrators couldn’t help it and just made it an annual thing. Every year 28.08, which is the birthday of Josef Pavelski - the founder of the cinema, the festival is held in honour of good old time cinema.

But enough of the history. Why we think you should go? Every survey is positive that this years edition will be even more successful than it’s predecessors. It’s going to be a racy mix of old time classics and recent award-winners. The viewers will be able to watch 'Rosemary's baby', 'Pulp Fiction', ’Body’, ‘The Godfather’, ‘Once Upon a Time in the West’ and ‘Shutter Island’ among others (the whole list will be linked down below). The idea behind this event is especially appealing to the young audience. It’s a perfect opportunity to meet people your age from all over the world. The energy there is amazing. Everybody share the same interest, which is cinematography. Hence all the movies are presented in original language versions, it’s also an excellent way to practise or learn new languages. You don’t have to book seats in advance and you won’t need a place to sleep as the marathon lasts all night.

The great news is that from this year on this festival is sponsored by the Czech Republic government as it is now considered a cultural promoting event that links people from multiple countries. But not only the free entrance should be tempting about this years marathon. Than what is so special about it? This time household names will have to share their screening time with young but incredibly talented directors whose movies will qualify to the finals of the content called ‘The best of the youngest’. Afterwards the audience alongside the jury (including it’s member – Emma Watson) will vote the winning teens who are going to receive fundings for their future movie projects.
